Tattoos

Tattoos by Alison Coplen

Tattoo’s have become big news in the fashion world, last year. Chanel was offering fake transfers to compliment their collection. This year Thierry Mugler, I believe, used Rick Genest, a model with a penchant for body art, and Christopher Kane, Acne and Marios Schwab have designed fabulous prints with tribal tattoo styles as the fabric feature. Well Christian Audigier has been my fav for years. I am loving the new fashion beyond Ed Hardy designs and will be making space in my wardrobe for the high street versions of 2011

So what is the census here? To Tat or not to tat?

As a mother I had forbidden my youngest daughter to follow the trend during her early teens, she requested to have one often and I said “no”. However, by 10am on the morning of her 18th birthday Candy came home with her first of many tattoo’s, of course I nearly died on the spot but I believe at the time I was influenced by the general public opinion, that they were not nice. I have since discovered during the following years and with some experience of the tattoo world by attending conventions that I actually like them – a lot, when done well. I appreciate the artwork, and it is a tad rebellious.

A close family member of mine, Ezequiel Nunez, is a fabulous artist with a tattoo needle. He travels far and wide with his talent and is very well known. I now proudly wear his work as does my daughter. Eze opens his new studio soon.

I love Art in it’s many forms, the more usual expression of paintings in galleries, painted furniture and tromp l’oiel , shoes are art to me as many friends know.

Just one tip to anyone considering body art, be 100% sure of your design choice and your tattooist, as they cannot be discarded like the fashion next season.

Here is some work by Eze Nunez

Eze Nuñez, is a globally recognized tattoo artist. He was born in 1974 in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Whilst growing up, Eze was surrounded by an artistic family environment and as a young boy he demonstrated a great ability for music, but especially for art. At the age of 16 he got his first tattoo.

Eze quickly realized that this complicated yet wonderful form of Art was what he truly wanted to do for the rest of his life. Shortly afterwards he opened the first tattoo studio in his home town of Tandil (his studio is still open all year round and is one of the most famed in Argentina) performing tattoos with expressions totally unique and out of the ordinary. In the year 2001 he decided to widen his horizons and rub shoulders with other great tattoo artists so he tralveled to Europe and based himself in Majorca, Spain.
