Friends of Son Net Wine tasting experience

A beautiful and perfect setting at the Gran Hotel Son Net for an evening of wine tasting followed by a special dining menu created for the event.

Guests arrived at the Hotel in Puigpunyent from 7pm onwards to sample the selected wines by the Sommelier Xavier Ramos,the owner  Mr Stein began the event with a greeting  suggesting the wine tasting had become a “wine experience” due to  the high turn out of  “Friends” of the Hotel , Xavier explained about the wines chosen to sample and delicacies were served in accordance. A vineyard has been planted at the Son Net which is expected to take about 3 -4 years for its first yield.

The  ambience of the evening was relaxed and most enjoyable, elaboration of the wines below with photo gallery.

Son Net White

This wine is made from Prensal Blanc, a Majorcan variety of delicate and fresh aromas, together with Viognier, a recently discovered Mediterranean variety that adds a touch of acidity and structure to round off the wine. The vineyard location is Consell

70% Prensal Blanc

15% Viognier

15% Chenin Blanc

Elaboration:

Handpicked and subsequent selection of the individual grapes to ensure the highest quality. Gentle pressing of grapes at low pressure inn a pneumatic press to prevent oxidation.Long fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperature of approx. 14oC for about 40 days to retain the subtle varietal aromas. The Prensal Blanc gives the wine refreshing aroma of citrus and white fruit, the Chenin Blanc gives acidity, and the Viognier offers complexity and smoothness.

Drinking temperature: 6-7 oC

Shelf life: 2 years

Son Net Rose`

This young, fresh and balanced rose` has aromatic notes of red fruits.

The Vineyard location is Consell

Vino de Tierra Mallorca

Grape varieties:

70% Manto negro and Callet

30% Merlot

Elaboration:

Handpicked from vineyards and subsequent selection of the individual grape, grape by grape, and carefully prepared at facilities to ensure the highest quality.

A part of the grapes is pressed gently to attain fresh fruit aromas while the remainder is macerated in tanks for 12-18 hours and bled for more structure and depth. Long fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures of approx 12-14oC  days to retain the subtle varietal aromas.

Drinking temperature: 6-7 oC

Alcoholic Strength: 14%

Shelf life: 2 years

Son Net Red

This wine displays the primary characters of Manto Negro ( aromas of red fruits like strawberries and raspberries ) plus mineral notes from our vineyards, which are rich  in salt and limestone. The Vineyard location is in Consell.

Grape varieties:

40% Manto Negro

30% Cabernet Sauvignon

20% Syrah

10% Merlot

Aging: 75% during 8 months

Barrel type ():75% second-third year French oak barrels and 25 % American

Elaboration:

Handpicked from vineyards and subsequent selection of the individual grapes at the winery’s facilities to ensure the highest quality. It is fermented at a moderate temperature of between 25% – 27 %oC to avoid over-maceration during extraction of the primary flavours of red fruits of the Manto negro grapes with smooth, rounded tannins of Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot. Finally the 75% aged in barrels is combined with the 25%stored in tanks.

Drinking temperature: 14-16oC

Alcoholic strength: 14%

Shelf life: 6-8 years

Son Net Red Premium

This wine displays the primary characters of Manto Negro ( aromas of red fruits like strawberries and raspberries ) plus mineral notes from our vineyards , which are rich in salt and limestone. The vineyard location us in Serra de Tramuntana 500m altitude.

70% Manto Negro

15% Cabernet Sauvignon

15% Merlot

Agin: 100% during the 12 months

Barrel type (%): 100% French oak

Elaboration

Handpicked form organic vineyards is a selection of the best grapes. It is fermented at a moderate temperature of between 25  and 28 oC

The maceration takes 20 days.

Drinking temperature: 15 – 18 oC

Alcoholic Strength: 15%

Shelf life: 10 years
