JetXtra.com to offer Alicante and Palma flights from Humberside Airport

FLEDGLING flight operator JetXtra.com will soon be taking off from Humberside Airport. The new company, which has sorted out a naming issue that threatened to escalate into legal action with Jet2, will now offer Alicante and Palma as destinations for summer 2013.

The tie-in with Humberside Airport Travel comes as Humberside Airport confirmed September destinations of Lake Garda in northern Italy and Porto, Portugal’s second city, with Newmarket Holidays.

Paul Litten, commercial director at Kirmington, said: “The airport is delighted someone else is getting behind the Alicante and Palma services operating next year.”

Two Palma flights and an Alicante departure, are joined by Jersey, Bulgaria, Turkey and Tunisia on the flight information boards next summer.

The one-off trips to Italy and Portugal offer “an additional 500 people the chance to go away to somewhere that wasn’t an option before,” said Mr Litten.

Lake Garda joins a cruise link-up to Venice, as well as Naples and Verona in an Italian quartet of single charters, with Madeira, Croatia and the French Riviera also on the list.

Following an end to the dispute over the “Jet” naming, which started with a solicitors’ letter, Liverpool-based JetXtra.com has retained its original title, and is now keen to boost the numbers taking up the seats. Flights from Humberside to the Costa Blanca and Majorca will operate every Tuesday between May 28 and September 24.

JetXtra.com director Daniel Reilly said: “We are delighted to announce that in co-operation with Humberside Airport Travel we are now offering services from Humberside Airport to Alicante and Majorca. Passengers can enjoy a free luggage allowance of 20kg, allocated seating, no card charges and our underlining focus on making fares transparent for them.”

All flights are ATOL protected by JetXtra.com’s parent company; Independent Worldchoice Holidays, which brings more than a decade of travel industry experience to the fore.

Of the issue with Jet2, Mr Reilly said: “The situation was eventually resolved after several months of letters back and forth. We explained that we did not have any intention of attempting to confuse the public into believing we were part of Jet2, our brand and logo are purposefully different to theirs for this reason, our website statistics also showed us that nobody had landed at jetXtra.com by mistake having been searching for Jet2.”
