Sally Trotman, make the most of this abundant energy

As I write this blog, the moon is under the influence of the of astrological sign of Cancer. This beautiful planet which lights up our night sky, moves through a different astrological sign every two and a half days. This cycle is repeated every month which gives you the perfect opportunity to explore different aspects of yourself and your psyche depending on what sign the moon is currently moving through.

Certain astrological phases are more favourable to begin new projects for example, whilst at other times you may feel more reflective. We are all susceptible to changes in mood. Just as the moon governs the tides, it also affects our emotional state.

Today, the watery Cancerian influence has brought my attention to the topic of security. What makes you feel secure? Do you feel like you have enough money? Do you feel happy in your home? Do you feel loved by your nearest and dearest? There are many elements which bring about a feeling of security, and we generally equate our inner feeling of security with outer circumstances. Think for a moment about the last time you had a pay rise. I’m sure you felt happy and relaxed knowing that you had a bit more income. The question is, did that feeling last or did you find yourself striving for the next thing, such as a new car or taking a holiday to a more exotic location? As humans it is our natural instinct to strive in order to better ourselves and attain goals to feel successful. It makes us feel purposeful too. As with everything in life, this needs to be balanced. Indeed we do need to pay the bills to remain comfortable, but if this becomes our only focus in life we may end up feeling a little empty.

Next time you find yourself worrying about paying the bills or wishing you felt more supported by those close to you, consider for a moment the root of this worry. Where do you feel it in your body? Is there a colour you associate with this feeling? Are there any other emotions you are experiencing as you zone in a little closer? Imagine for a moment that all is well in your world and that you have absolute trust in yourself. You have everything you need. You feel relaxed and realise that all your needs in this moment are taken care of, because they are. Bring yourself fully back to this moment and be grateful for what you have today. Trust that you will be provided for tomorrow and know that you are never alone.

What can you do today to support yourself? Building inner security is vital to experiencing outer abundance, so consider what you can do for yourself to increase your feelings of peace, trust and self worth. By learning to support, love and trust yourself, the mirror image of life will miraculously return these gifts back to you. Here’s an affirmation to help you support yourself and remain open to receiving :

I SUPPORT MYSELF FULLY AND KNOW IN EACH MOMENT EXACTLY WHAT I NEED

The more you develop trust in yourself to meet your own needs, the better you will feel. Perhaps even write down at the beginning of each day a list of what you need (this can cover any area of your life from health to home) By becoming clear about what these needs are, and then taking appropriate action in order for these needs to be met, you will feel instantly better. So next time you pray for a lottery win consider why you need this chunk of money and how you can give this sense of security to yourself, right now. The universal law of attraction brings you more of what you already have, so take some time to develop your feelings of inner security and I’m sure you will be amazed at the riches bestowed upon you in many unexpected forms!

Replace fears with faith

st

Did you know that 97% of fears actually never manifest? If you think back over your life to all the things you were worried about in the past, you’ll probably find most of them never materialised. Worry really is negative prayer, and the more we worry the more likely we are to bring those worries into our reality. So what is the best way to stop those nagging fears? There are a few ways to banish doubt and one of the best ways is to trust that all will be well. Whatever happens to you in life you will be able to handle it. Trusting yourself is a key factor in releasing worry. Knowing that you always make the best choices for you, and knowing that no one is perfect takes the pressure off. Deal with life one day at a time. It is very easy to fast forward to possible events in the future and catastrophise, but actually this isn’t helpful and if you simply take life one day at a time, the pressure lifts immediately. What exactly do you need to worry about right now? If you are concerned about something in your life what action can you take to rectify this? Taking action helps to dispel worry. Worry often stems from a feeling of powerlessness. What can you do right now to feel more empowered and more in control of your life? Whether it’s simply changing your perspective on a situation or taking some positive action to remedy a situation, know that you have all the tools, strength and knowledge to deal well with whatever life brings.

Adopting an attitude of gratitude also helps to maintain a balanced viewpoint. It’s quite difficult to worry when you are counting your blessings. So when you find yourself fretting over some aspect of your life, give thanks for what is working and praise yourself for doing a great job. By doing this you are positively affirming your choices, strengths and current life direction. Give thanks for every aspect of your life from where you live, to who you live with, how you earn your living and how you spend your free time. After all you are the creator of your destiny so focus on what is great in your life right now and what you want to create more of. By being grateful in the present moment and keeping a positive expectation of what is to come, you will find that worry is a distant memory. So take some time now to count your blessings and confidently move forward with your plans. You can do it!

What do you need right now?

Much is written regarding the law of attraction and manifesting desires based on the premise of becoming clear about what you want. Consider instead now for a moment, what you really need. This is a very different approach because actually a need is more powerful than a want. You may want to lose weight but do you need to? How do you know the difference between a want and a need? Any situation which is effecting you adversely probably means a change is needed. For example if you had high blood pressure you would need to find ways to lower it because this is threatening your well-being. However another example might be that you want to live in a house with a sea view but is it a need right now? If this becomes a burning need then you will find ways to make this happen. The stronger a need becomes the more likely you are to manifest this situation. Another way to discover what you need is to think on a scale of 1-10 just how important something is to you. This will help you to prioritize your needs.

Take a few minutes today to do a simple exercise to become aware of your most important needs. Write down a few headings including home, work, relationships, friends, family and other. List your most important needs under each heading. For example perhaps you need a quiet, sunny home close to a big town or station if you take the train to work. Consider what you really need in your relationships and what you need from your work. It can be easy to dismiss your most important needs thinking that they are not important or that you don’t deserve these needs to be met, but this isn’t true and to live a fulfilling existence it is important to become aware of what your needs are and how you can meet them. After all no one else knows exactly what you need unless you say. Communicating your most important needs can be difficult at first, so practice with something small and build up to the bigger requirements. By doing this you will become confident that your needs will be met. List also the action you need to take in order for you needs to be met. For example if I need to reach more clients I need to advertise myself more, write more and generally find ways to promote myself. Without taking action this need will not be met. To make it easier partner up with a friend and do the exercise together. Then you can keep each other on track and make sure you are taking steps every day towards meeting your most important needs!

What makes you feel super?

If the fairy godmother could wave her wand and grant you three wishes what would they be? This will give you an idea of what is important to you. What makes you feel truly alive? For it will be only these dreams that last the distance. You may have to make sacrifices along the journey, so what are you willing to sacrifice? What do you feel so passionate about that you are willing to patiently follow steps to manifest your desires?

On my yoga mat this morning I asked myself, what will help us all to feel truly super every day? These were my insights:

Take one step at a time – consider at the beginning of each day what you can realistically achieve. Write a list and cross each task off as you complete it. This will give you a sense of satisfaction as you see the progress you are making.

Be patient – boring I know, and a cliché, but unfortunately most of our important dreams don’t manifest over night so you will need to patiently watch the process unfold…

Give yourself praise – when you acknowledge your progress and achievements you are more able to take your time and realise that actually, you are moving rapidly along you path to fulfillment.

Listen to your body – this is vital. You will know the difference between feeling a bit lethargic and actually needing to rest. Ask your body in each moment what it is you need.

Listen to others – talk to people you trust to support you in your dreams. It’s important to bounce ideas around with like-minded souls, and then take on board advice that resonates with you. No one can infuse as much passion into your dreams as you can, but your closest support team will definitely help you remain focused on your desires.

Take action – this is a simple step but the most vital. Dreams will remain just that if you just dream about them! Take action every day to bring your dreams to fruition. Just one small step will cause a reaction and this will more than likely lead you to exactly where you need to be.

Enjoy the journey – another cliché but so important. If you enjoy every step and have fun along the way, your dreams will manifest far more rapidly and easily than you can possibly imagine.

So take some time over the next few days to consider what makes you feel super! Choose good feeling thoughts in each moment and I’m going to quote Walt Disney again ‘If you can dream it you can do it!’ Good luck and read on to discover how to remain motivated on your journey to living the dream…

Motivate yourself!

I write this blog based on my own personal life learning. The hot topic of the day for me is remaining motivated! This can be quite a challenge in any situation, whether you are running your own business, working hard for your boss, trying to lose weight, wanting to develop a good work/life balance or learning a new language. If you lose motivation, the chances are that you won’t manifest your desired outcome. Let’s take for example a goal which is important to you. It doesn’t matter how big or small this is, some level of self motivation will be required to achieve this. Ok, so have you thought of something you would like to achieve? You probably feel excited, or at the very least aware of a little skip in your tummy as you think of this goal. I’ll use one of my own goals as an example to help you along. It is a work goal and I’m quite emotionally invested in my work as it’s one of my main passions in life! When you have some emotional investment in your goal, you may find you come up against a few obstacles, so you need to remain focused at all times on WHAT YOU WANT!

Are you ready? Keep your goal in mind. Feel the excitement building as you focus on your goal, feel the energy build as you visualise yourself attaining your goal. See yourself in that svelte red dress/smart black suit/BMW convertible/blissfully peaceful state, or whatever it is you want to achieve, and know that this is well within your reach. See yourself living the dream, fulfilling your goal and deriving a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that you have achieved this important milestone.

Back to my example to help you along. I teach meditation to individuals and groups, to help people become clear about what they want and build the confidence they need to fulfil their goals. I would like to teach more classes as I can see how much this benefits participants, so just before I started writing this blog, I took some inspired action. I called a fitness centre nearby to arrange beginning a new Monday morning Meditation class. It took me some effort to do this and I had to ward off a few negative voices whispering devilish comments, but I overcame them, made the call and am now taking bookings for the course. Helping others to feel good makes me feel good. I learn so much as I teach each class, meet some very interesting people and I love seeing every one fulfil their goals. It is worth thinking about why exactly your goal is important to you. This will help you to remain motivated too.

When you see yourself achieving the goal as you make the necessary steps, it will help you to stay motivated. There will of course be times that you have a serious case of CBA! This is perfectly normal. Afterall you are not superman/woman and you are here to learn how to overcome such challenges along the path. Don’t beat yourself up. If you’re having a really low motivation moment, do something different. Go for a walk, take a nap (one of my favourite restorative techniques!) talk to a friend, or tackle an easy part of the task. You’ll soon find your enthusiasm returning and it won’t take much. You’ve probably noticed how fast your mood can alter, so do/think/feel whatever you can to get back on track as quickly as possible.

Keep the faith, and believe that you can achieve your goal. Confidence that you can achieve your goal is the key. Below is a short exercise to help boot your confidence:

Breath in through your nose to the count of three
Breath out through your nose to the count of three
Release any tension you are holding in your physical body as you exhale
Keep your eyes open!!! You need to follow the next few steps consciously…
Imagine a colour that represents confidence to you
Breathe this colour into your upper stomach area
See this vibrant colour filling your whole body
You might even feel tingles in your fingers and toes now!
See this colour expanding out like a balloon beyond your body
See the balloon growing and growing
You feel tall
You feel strong
You are in charge!
You can close your eyes for a few moments now and really intensify the feeling of confidence as this colour pulses through your body
Open your eyes and notice how you feel.

Now you are feeling stronger, more confident and more motivated, it is the perfect time to take one inspired action towards creating your goal. This is vital as without action no reaction takes place. It is probably the most important part of achieving your goals. Now you are feeling super confident you can achieve whatever you want. Afterall why on earth wouldn’t you go for what you really want? Doing anything less than what you 100% desire in life doesn’t really make sense!! When you’ve taken this important action tell someone who is supportive of your dreams. When you speak this achievement out loud you will feel even better. So keep the faith and keep motivated. You can do it!

Cast doubt out!

Do you ever have an amazing brain wave, become very excited about it and then a few hours later, ditch the idea as an unrealistic dream? As Walt Disney says, ‘If you can dream it you can do it!’ and it’s true. Those flashes of inspiration generally come from your soul, which is wanting to guide you in the best way possible to create a joyful existence during your time on earth. So what stops you from taking action to bring your idea into this reality? Fear? Lack of confidence? Or perhaps you’ve taken steps towards manifesting your dream, have faced rejection in some way and have lost the faith. Pursuing your dreams provides some steep learning curves. I’m sure Richard Branson would agree! Having the idea is the fun exciting bit, whilst bringing your dreams into reality can present some challenges. So here are some tips to help you make your dreams reality:

Stay focused on what you want and why – if you remain clear about what you want and aware of the reason why you want to fulfill this dream you will achieve it more quickly.
Share your dream with others – you will need support along the way from like-minded souls to help you create your dream. After all, no man is an island.
Be flexible – sometimes you may need to change the route to fulfilling your dream. If you hit a block which you can’t overcome, change your perspective and know that what you perceive as an obstacle is probably a blessing.
Support yourself – it can be very easy to get frustrated with yourself whilst pursuing your dream, especially when things don’t quite go to plan. Remain supportive of yourself in your thoughts, words and actions. You need to be your best friend on this journey as falling out with yourself can be a danger!
Trust – it’s a cliché but actually trusting in yourself and your dreams is key. If you lose belief in yourself and your dream it will never materialise.

A big part of the human experience is to bring ideas into solid form. We are not living in the age of Atlantis, when thought led to instant manifestation, so remain positive, patient and persevere in the face of adversity. The sense of satisfaction when you take a step closer to your dream will be incredible. Knowing that you are the master of your destiny and that you can create anything you want will give you the energy to continue pursuing your dreams. Remember though to enjoy the journey. Another cliché I know, but perhaps one of the most exciting parts of pursuing your dream is what you learn on the way to attaining your vision.

So keep the faith, stay focused and know, that by taking inspired action today towards fulfilling your dream, will change the course of your destiny for the better.

What makes you feel super?

On the 20th January the super new moon was ruled by the airy sign of Aquarius. After a sluggish week or two in the wake of the full moon in Cancer, this fresh Aquarian energy is most welcome. Still in depths of winter, and yet the first buds are breaking through despite the colder climes, it is a time for new beginnings. This may perhaps require a little more effort as we push through the hard ground, but none the less the conditions are right for starting new projects of all kinds. The first new moon of the year today is giving us all the opportunity to set intentions for the year ahead.

If the fairy godmother could wave her wand and grant you three wishes what would they be? This will give you an idea of what is important to you. What makes you feel truly alive? What makes you happy? by Sally Trotman

There is much written these days about following your bliss, doing what makes you happy and spending time living your passions…but what if you’re not sure exactly makes you happy? Or perhaps lots of things make you happy…but you don’t have time to fit everything in. Having a fulfilling job is important, along with creating better relationships, better health and a better body…but how exactly do we have the time to balance all of this? With so much written about developing the ideal work/life balance, it’s easy to feel guilty if you’ve missed out one aspect of the ideal daily routine. I think it’s time we took the pressure off and stopped trying so hard to be perfect! Perhaps a job you like well enough, a relationship which makes you feel good most of the time and a home where you feel comfortable is in fact more than enough to make you happy. Are well all striving for perfection?

Perhaps it is about how you view the things you have in your life already. You may be familiar with the quote ‘love what you have and have what you love’. I think this is an important to remember. Of course if you have a goal that is important to you, go for it with all your heart. Feeling excited about your future and your dreams is a vital part of life, but maintaining a constant feeling of excitement as you do the the washing or clean the floor can at times be a challenge. So perhaps there is a new goal to consider; to release the pressure. To wake up in the morning and just breathe. It is too easy to begin the day with a head full of your to do list, so just sit up and breathe. As you go about your day continue to just breathe. If you feel stressed, breathe, if you feel sad, breathe, and if you feel excited, breathe. I might be sounding a bit Zen with all of this but if you take your time with each task, listen to what is being said to you, and most importantly, listen to yourself. If you ask yourself often, what do I need or is this good for me, you will feel better and make some great choices. So ditch the vision of perfection and start honoring yourself, imperfections and all. Slow down, take time for you and most importantly know that you can be happy in each moment simply by choosing to feel good and knowing you are always doing the best you can.

Do you believe you deserve to be happy?

Of course, you will probably answer yes straight away! However, on closer inspection of the various different aspects of your life, it may be helpful to acknowledge where you are causing yourself some suffering. Do you struggle in the areas of finances, relationships or health? It’s amazing how we prevent ourselves from being truly happy by holding onto limiting beliefs. Consider for a moment one area of your life which is causing you stress. Ask yourself what limiting beliefs you hold in this area. How are you viewing this area of your life? When you look at the negatives in a person or situation they grow. If you look for just one positive aspect in the situation, this will grow and you will feel better.

We cause ourselves suffering in many ways, through negative self talk, with thoughts such as ‘ I could have done that better’, ‘why did I do that ten years ago’,’what is the point’ and so on. We all talk to ourselves in this way from time to time (some of us more often than others!) and these thoughts dis-empower you. The key to releasing suffering is to chose positive, empowering thoughts, followed by inspired action.

So if for example you don’t enjoy your work, look at the positive aspects you do enjoy (there will be at least one thing!) and then look for another, and another. You will quickly find quite a few. You will notice your mood changing, a little smile developing perhaps, and a feeling of expansion. It may well be that it’s time to find a new job, and you will certainly attract one if you are feeling positive about your current situation. So remain focused on what inspires you in your current job, and you will quickly attract an even better job for you.

The energies of this year are helping you to hear your truth, to acknowledge what is right for you, what is empowering for you. When you listen to your truth you feel at peace. Negative, self critical talk is not your truth. That is your ego. Acknowledge this aspect of yourself and choose truthful words and thoughts. The truth is always positive, peaceful and empowering. We create separation in our lives when we come from fear. So how do you recognise when you are coming from fear? Simply notice how you feel. If you have a sinking feeling, or a feeling of heaviness around a certain situation you are coming from fear. For example, if you are afraid of flying, you will feel tense or heavy when you think about it. Now change those thoughts. Consider all the wonderful aspects of flying, such as being able to visit new places, time to yourself to read during the journey, being waited on, watching movies…feel your energy change as you focus on the positives.

The same principles need to be applied in all areas of your life. We sabotage and dis-empower ourselves by focusing on the negatives, so reclaim your power today and find the ray of hope, the positive in every situation and circumstance you find yourself in. This positive energy will then enable you to attract even better situations into your life, and before you know it you will be living the abundant, joyful, blissful life that is your birth right. Put an end to suffering today. It’s only in your mind and you can chose what you think in every moment. So chose positive, empowering thoughts in each moment and miracles will occur..

Gratitude, lightness and love

Take a moment to give thanks for everything in your life right now. Be grateful for the chair you are sitting on whilst reading this, and for the education you received so that you can read this piece! Continue to give thanks for all the wonderful things in your life RIGHT now. As you count your blessings you will feel lighter and free. Now think of someone in your life who makes you laugh. Remember the moments of laughter you have had with this person and notice how your body relaxes as you recall this positive memory. Let this feeling fill your whole body. You may find yourself smiling as you remember this moment! Finally, think of someone you love. Really experience that feeling of love at a deep level. Feel your heart filling with love. Now as you bring your focus back to your breath, think of three colours that you associate with the feelings of gratitude, lightness and love. See these colours burning brightly in your heart, and carry these colours with you. As you go through your day give thanks for everything in your life, and practice bringing more lightness, humour and love to all your relationships. As you do so, your life will change because thoughts create reality, and imagine the new reality you will be creating as you focus only on abundance, lightness and love?

Blonde or brunette? by Sally Trotman

Two months ago I went through a radical image change. As I sat in the hairdresser’s chair, watching this fairy like lady mix bleach infused dye, my heart was pounding. I wanted to run away. Fortunately my Aries friend pinned me to the chair, told me to throw my Taurean caution to the wind, and embrace the change. After three hours of bleaching, and a bit of a restyle, I left the salon feeling a whole lot lighter. From brunette to blonde in just three hours, it had taken me about seven years years to find the courage to make this change. After several hours of peering endlessly in the mirror, I started to feel comfortable with my new look. I changed my hair just as summer was beginning in Mallorca, so the perfect time to get out and show it off a bit. It seems to me that blondes really do have more fun! Overnight I outgrew several situations in my life. Changing my look seemed to change everything. Perhaps I had been building up to this, as I’d been making a lot of inner changes since the start of the year. My blonde hair seemed to radically reflect this positive change. Watching the look of shock on friend’s faces as we met up for the first time since ‘dying’ was brilliant. Indeed I had dyed to my old look, and had been born anew. Of course not all reactions were positive, and I was ready for it. After all it had taken me a few days to adjust. Three weeks after the first dying session I went back for stage two; platinum blonde. This was my ultimate goal so I decided it was now or never. In Spain brunette is the name of the game, and the Spaniards seemed quite fascinated with the look. On returning to the UK no one really seemed to notice. We are far more adventurous with our hair in Britain, thanks to our pioneering spirit. Platinum blonde is quite tame in comparison to the odd pink mohawk found roaming around the streets of Watford. So what did I learn by changing from dark to light? I feel freer, more fun, and ready for adventure. Maybe all of this was stirring inside but somehow, every time I catch a glimpse of my new blonde look I remember the courage it took to ‘dye’ to the old. If I can make this change then what else can I do? So think for a moment about what you would like to do but don’t feel courageous enough to follow through. I could introduce you to my Aries friend to help you make the change but she’s quite busy charging ahead at the moment herself. So how can you get in touch with your inner ram? Listen to those repeated messages giving you a nudge in a different direction. We regret the things we don’t do, so be bold and go for it. You may be surprised at just what happens as you follow your heart and make a brand new start.

The Happiness Blog by Sally Trotman

If you had one wish what would it be?

I’m a bit of a fan of the law of attraction. You’ve probably heard of this new age term, where you ask the universe what you want and magically it is brought to you on a shiny gold platter. Well perhaps it doesn’t work quite like that but life can run pretty smoothly if you follow the steps below. So let me talk you through the three stages of living the dream:

INTEND! Set your intention. What do you want? The best way to really know what you want is to ask yourself the miracle question. If a genie arrived with his lamp and asked you, ‘If one wish could be granted what would it be?’. Go with your first answer and you now have your intention. Repeat your wish out loud. Sound carries a strong vibration and will make your wish feel real. Now write your wish down in a couple of sentences, perhaps in your diary or on a calendar. State by when you would like to have your wish granted because this helps you, and the universe, get focused. Begin your intention with ‘I expect’. This is a powerful phrase and indicates that you mean business. Notice how good it feels when you say it! So here is an example for you, ‘I expect to meet my life partner by Christmas’ (everyone knows my top wish now!) You may have all sorts of negative voices in your head as soon as you’ve thought of the wish. Ignore them because we’re going to deal with your inner sceptic in a minute. For now, state your wish clearly three times out loud and then read on to the next part of the magical recipe.

BELIEVE! Believe your wish will be granted with unwaivering faith. Now this is probably the most challenging part of bringing your wish into reality. The more important your wish is to you, the more negative voices will fill your head. After all if there was no resistance to you receiving your wish it would be in your life right now. The first question which will probably pop up is ‘HOW???’ Suddenly your brain goes into overdrive wondering how on earth your wish will be granted. This is not for you to decide! Your soul knows all the answers and will guide you perfectly to where you need to be to receive this wish. So forget the how and simply focus only on what you want. I will repeat that again because this is vital. Focus ONLY ON WHAT YOU WANT!!! There is no room for negative thoughts, so ditch them. All your energy needs to be focused on exactly what you want. Expect it and you will get it.

RECIEVE! How? What? Where? Calm that mind down, remember it’s all in hand and your wish is well on its way to you now. When you feel good you attract good things so help yourself feel good by noticing the great things around you RIGHT NOW. Watch the birds gliding gracefully in the sky, play your favourite song or smile to yourself as you think of your best friend. Whatever makes you feel good, keep your attention focused on it, and maintain this attitude of gratitude. After all my life partner isn’t going to want to come anywhere near me if I’m winging about the british weather or rising inflation. Raise your vibration and become a magic magnet by focusing on the good in your life. Another important aspect of recieving is taking action. You will receive many insights from your beautiful soul, guiding you along the path towards your wish, so make sure you take action on these. If you don’t the ideas will fade and the genie’s lamp will go out. Taking action is vital to receiving. Finally relax. Know that your wish is on it’s way to you because the universe is very obedient and wants you to have your best Christmas ever. So intend, believe, receive and you won’t need the genie to grant your wish because you’ve just done it yourself.

Healing the Self through Yoga and Transforming the Planet.

Yoga properly understood is a means of furthering the evolution of Consciousness on this planet. I believe we could even go so far as to say that yoga is the very reason for our existence on this planet. Yoga consciousness is meant to elevate the consciousness of humanity and transform the planet. Yoga consciousness properly understood is the creative spirit recreating itself through all of it’s creation. Classical Yoga is defined by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras as the realization of the cosmic being as our true self. Advaita is the non -dualistic view that we are one with the cosmic consciousness or the creator. We must come to understand that we are co-creators in this creation and we are continually creating or re- creating with our thoughts, with our words and with our actions. Yoga according to the Vedas, is the path of self – realization as this cosmic being with the realization not only of our human self, but the realization that the entire universe exists within our hearts. Yoga, which means union or yoke is devoted to uniting our own limited, finite individual consciousness with the unlimited infinite, cosmic consciousness of which we are one. Yogi Bhajan Phd. Master of Kundalini Yoga, repeatedly reminded his students, “if you can not see God in all, you can not see God at all.” When we are able to raise our consciousness and find the one creative spirit alive in all things on the planet, then we can only act from a place of love, compassion and non-violence and seek to heal and uplift all of life on earth. We must be able to find the same creative force in all of our fellow beings, in all of life from the mineral and crystal rock base of Gaia to the waters that provide life to our blue planet to the very air that we breathe and which is responsible for our life. Our very first action on this earth is to breathe in and our very last is our last exhalation. In between those two breaths are so many other breaths, but how often do we actually remember the vitality of our breath? How often are we even conscious of our breath? How often do we remember from whence that breath comes? How often do we remember how the very act of breathing unites us? Our breaths are all now contaminated by the toxins that encircle our planet as industry spews its toxic emissions and waste into the sky, as automobiles and other forms of transport leave a damaging carbon footprint on our earth and as we continue to dump poisonous waste into the seas .
“It is the consciousness of life which becomes the breath of life and gives life to the body. The breath of life is the consciousness of life and the consciousness of life is the breath of life.” Upanishads
The Breath is the kiss of God, and breathing brings us closer to this creative force some people call God. To breathe is to be one with the same creative force that provides for all life on our planet. And that same breath nourishes the plants and fruit which Gaia continues to offer us in abundance despite our neglect and abusive behavior. That same breath brings life to the animals who share this planet with us and who are responsible for maintaining the delicate ecosystems that keep a balance within all of life itself. And that same breath has enabled us to evolve into upright creatures with intelligence. That evolutionary force that has enabled us to stand upright and to develop intelligence was not meant to enable us to manifest our superiority over all of life and subvert and conquer and devastate our planet but rather to see the sacred flame ever present in all of life and live in harmony and in gratitude and allow this evolutionary march to go forward until we return to that one consciousness that has created all of life with it’s breath. According to the book Yoga and the Sacred Fire by Dr. David Frawley “the human being is meant to serve as a vehicle for the entire Universe to become self -aware. We are the instruments for God to perceive his creation through the eyes of his creatures. This is the fulfillment that cosmic intelligence has planned through the long evolutionary struggle. Yoga is a means of developing consciousness and the realization of consciousness lifts us and transforms us. Once we awaken at the level of the soul which is the level of our planetary being, we can then act to save the world and to save ourselves.”
Yoga is the sacred science passed down from master to disciple, from generation to generation from the very beginnings of time when as it is explained in the Bhagavad Gita, Yoga was first taught by God in the form of Lord Krishna, who related this teaching at a cosmic level to the Sun God, and then the Sun God taught it to all of humanity. “I taught this imperishable science of Yoga to the Sun God (Vivasan) who taught it to Manu (progenitor of humanity)” Bhagavad Gita 112
With these words it can be interpreted that God taught the imperishable science of yoga to mankind as a tool for their evolution back to God and as a tool for the Creator to be conscious of his own creation through the human being. Mankind in addition to having feelings inherent in all animals, has also the use of mind or intelligence to choose. Mankind must use this gift of choice or free will wisely. We must now choose how we will live our lives, what legacy will we leave behind us and if we will continue to destroy and devastate the planet and carry on killing other human beings in senseless wars or will we finally choose to care for life and love all of life around us.
“Your own self-realization is the greatest service you can render the world.” Sri Ramana
The challenge that we are now facing and that of the coming generation is exactly that self -realization of the oneness of all life and with this realization, with this awakening we all must take action to do what we can to save the planet and all it’s species from further damage and destruction and begin working together to co- create a world based upon co-operation and renewal and respect and gratitude for the magnificent life force that unites us all.
The generation which has inherited a dis-eased planet and which has taken birth in a species out of harmony with life itself must now direct it’s efforts to finding balance and harmony and the deep spiritual unifying factor of all life on this planet. The soul is the self-creating planet’s self-awareness. Dr. David Frawley – Pandit Vamdeva Shastri, one of the world’s most honored Vedic Scholars in both the East and the West, comments in his book; Yoga and The Sacred Fire, “The planet is the field of expression for the Soul. The planet is our greater body, while our soul is part of its indwelling planetary intelligence. All true healing powers lie within the soul, which is the very spirit of life. The soul has an inner connection with the forces of immortal life, the waters of eternity that can bring wholeness to all things. The soul has the power to heal the planet. Without such a spiritual awakening, our efforts to save the planet and its natural resources will lack depth and can become subverted.”
He continues to emphasize the necessity for a new ecology to heal the planet, “a sacred or yogic ecology that honors the consciousness both in nature and in ourselves, this is the ecology of the sacred fire arising from earth itself. The organic unity of life, such as ecology proposes, lies in the higher consciousness that pervades the universe. The reflection of a single spirit that creates and sustains all things from within. This spirit is the very ground of existence.”
Yoga allows us to work with the powers of breath, body and mind with pranayama, asana and meditation to achieve unity and to awaken the flame of awareness within to continue on our evolutionary journey as spiritual beings in unity with all of consciousness. It can even be argued that the breath was the first yoga teacher, the breath when listened to, teaches the body how to move with consciousness. Yoga properly understood is a service to God to transform ourselves back into the original Divine Consciousness and thereby to transform the planet. Human beings just like the planet itself is continually yearning for more, continually expanding and improving and striving for higher levels. It is the yearning of the universe to become more which is the trigger which propels us forward in our evolutionary journey.
It is imperative in this moment in time that we all become earth stewards or guardians of the planet and work to raise our own consciousness through our thoughts, our words and our deeds. We must take conscious efforts and actions to save the planet from further destruction, to find solutions, new ways of doing old things. We must each and everyone of us discover what is the special unique gift that we possess that we can contribute to humanity. We must ask ourselves what can we offer? Where might we serve? We must pledge to actively work towards sustainability preventing further damage from being done, finding ways to right the wrong that has been done and solutions to the serious challenges threatening the entire planet if we do not learn to work together as one human body. In order for us to create this new spiritual ecology we must become spiritual beings. We must connect deeply to the earth and to the sun which has produced life, we must join these two forces in our heart centre and become the sacred beings of love and light we are meant to be. We must strive to nurture our inner nature and honor and embrace Mother Nature with respect and gratitude and help humanity to transform through a cosmic sense of unity, creating a cosmic yoga and enter into a new era of healing of self and planet. This is the challenge and the gift facing all human beings in this most transcendental and transformative moment in time. NAMASTE
